Taylor Swift: How Much Further Will She Go?

By now we’ve all heard Taylor Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off.” The music video on Vevo has received over 200 million views to date and we’ve all heard it played on the radio at least three times a day in the past few weeks. No one expected her to get any bigger after this hit, but she proved the world wrong.

With the debut of her latest album “1989,” Swift has become the “second-biggest selling act of 2014 and the only solo platinum-selling artist of the year,” according to CNN.

Swift’s biggest move recently was the removal of all of her songs from the most popular streaming site in the entire world, Spotify. She said, “I can say is that music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment, and I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music.”

This top music idol has not failed to cover her bases either. Before the release of “1989,” Swift personally chose fans who wanted nothing more than to meet their idol and invited them to listening parties at her many homes around the world. Not only did they get to hear some of the new album, but they got to spend hours hanging out with their favorite superstar and even take pictures with her. The fans were given permission to share their experiences with the world on the one condition that they kept information on the songs a secret.

The fans truly proved their devotion to Swift afterwards. The moment any of the music was illegally posted, a fan commented on it, reported it, and got it taken down.

Jacob Kastrenakes of The Verge stated, “Taylor Swift is basically the biggest musician in the world this week, and that means she’s in the rare position of being able to do whatever she wants.”

He couldn’t be more right. The world is obsessed with her right now and though “haters gonna hate,” as she said herself, she’s simply gonna “shake it off.”
