Why You Shouldn’t Give Up

(not a TED talk, a pep talk)

Have you ever sat down and really thought about what you want to be or do in the future? So many kids grow up and wish they could be a professional athlete, or an astronaut, a doctor, or a lawyer, etc. But why do so many of them give up on their dream if that’s what they wish to be. I believe that nobody should ever give up no matter what it is because if you don’t, it makes you a stronger person by working hard and it builds character.

Many people dream and wish that what they want to do is going to happen because they want it but in reality you are never going to win unless you work hard. When you work hard at something you don’t particularly like, you’re telling everyone that you look beyond the context of the work itself. For example, I believe that life is a competition because if you’ve got 100 people that all want to be doctors, about 75% of them won’t make it because of the lack of hard work. People in life are only going to care about how good you are at something and if it will benefit them and you are only going to get better at something if you put in the time daily and work to what you want to become.

Not giving up on what you truly want to be also builds a better character. For many people, if we can’t have something in 5 minutes then we don’t want it and if getting it is hard then forget about it. From having huge goals many people say to you that you can’t do it or it’s impossible. You shouldn’t be a quitter because it’s too easy to quit and giving up is easy but easy does not build character. Having a strong character is the same way into having strong muscles and that’s by working hard and being persistent.

All in all, people these days give up way too easy in life by not going for what is hard and meaningful but for what is easy and simple. I believe that being persistent and a hard worker will help you build a better character.
