Congratulations to the Class of 2016 class leaders!

The Class of 2016 has announced their Valedictorian, Erin O’Brien, overall average 97.64% ; Salutatorian Kenneth Adames-Ramos, 97.61% ; and Vocational leader Matthew Edgar, 88.14% (90% at BOCES).

Indian River High School is proud to announce the academic leaders of the Class of 2016.  They are: Valedictorian, Erin O’Brien, daughter of Allan O’Brien from Antwerp, New York and Holly O’Brien, from Calcium, New York; Salutatorian, Kenneth Adames Ramos, son of  Alexander Cruz-Roman and Oneida Ramos-Vazquez from Evans Mills, New York, and Vocational Leader, Matthew Edgar, son of Darren and Marsha Edgar of Theresa, New York.

Erin O’Brien has been named Valedictorian with a cumulative grade point average of 97.64.  Erin is an active member of our school community.  She has been a member of the National Honor Society and History Club since her sophomore year.  She is currently serving as President of the History club.   Erin has been active in Whiz Quiz the past two years as well.  Erin is a scholar athlete and has played varsity soccer as well as varsity tennis for the past two years.  She is currently the captain of our varsity tennis team and was recently named MVP.  Erin is also active in Jazz Rock, NYSMA Solofest, Area All State, and represented Indian River at Empire Girls State.  Erin is an active volunteer in her community as well.  She has volunteered her time coaching soccer,  working at the SPCA, 33Live youth group, PBS, NYS Department of Health as a student assistant, Samaritan Medical Center summer volunteer, and at a local Salvation Army. She also serves her church community by attending conferences.

Erin has taken several advanced classes throughout her high school career and will graduate with 16  college credits through Syracuse University, Jefferson Community College, with the potential of earning extra credits through CLEP.  At this point Erin has already been accepted to Canisius College with the Dean’s Academic Scholarship; Cazenovia College with the Presidential Scholars Award; Elmira College with the Founder Scholarship; Houghton College; Florida Institute of Technology, Marine Biology program with the Panther Fund Merit Scholarship; Florida Southern College with the Danforth Scholarship; Hartwick College with the Abraham Kellogg Scholarship; Le Moyne College with the Dean Scholarship; Niagara University with the Niagara University Presidents Scholarship; Palm Beach Atlantic University with  the Provost’s Scholarship; State University of New York College at Plattsburgh with the North Country Scholarship; Robert Wesleyan College; St. Lawrence University with the Augsbury/North Country Scholar Award.

Kenneth Adames-Ramos has been named Salutatorian with a cumulative grade point average of 97.61.  Kenneth is an active member of our school community.  He has been on the honor roll throughout his high school career and a member of the National Honor Society for the past two years.  He won first place in the Chemistry Section-A Science Fair, received the US History Highest Grade Award, and received Sage Colleges Student Award Scholarship.  He has been the president of the Spanish Club for the past two years, been active in the Human Rights Club, in which he is currently the secretary, and is active in Math and Key Club.  Kenneth represented Indian River at Empire Boys State.  Kenneth received the Good Citizenship Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution and was named News 7 Academic All-Star.  He continues to be active in Outdoor track and was captain of the Indoor Track and Cross Country Teams.  He has also been named to the Section-X All Northern Athletics Team for track, as well as being named a scholar athlete.

Kenneth has participated in many class events such as our talent show, a pie eating contest, and assisted at the Multicultural Fair.  For two years, Kenneth volunteered with his church’s teen group, Xtreme.  He also serves his community well by volunteering at St. Mary’s Food Pantry, SPCA, and Indian River’s Back Pack Run. Kenneth has taken several advanced classes throughout his high school career and will graduate with 14 college credits through Syracuse University, Jefferson Community College, with the potential of earning extra credits through CLEP.  Kenneth has already been accepted to Clarkson University, SUNY Oswego, and University of Buffalo.

Mathew Edgar has been named Vocational Leader with a cumulative grade point average of 88.14.  Matt attends Charles H. Bohlen, Jr. Technical Center for Carpentry Masonry II where he has a cumulative GPA of 90.  Matt earned perfect attendance during his freshmen year.  He has been on the honor roll throughout his high school career.  Matt has contributed to his community by volunteering his time at the Town of Theresa Halloween Party for the past two years.  He assisted with Indian River’s Back Pack program this year.  Matt also went through AED/CPR training.  While volunteering and maintaining good academics he has also worked at Hicks Ice Plant for the past two years.
