The question many college basketball analysts ask themselves is who is the best player in the country? Many believe Doug McDermott of the Creighton Bluejays is the best player in college basketball right now.

McDermott has led the Bluejays to a 23-4 record earning them a number nine spot on the AP top 25 poll. He is averaging 26 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. The senior from Ames, Iowa is steadily climbing up the NCAA Men’s division one all-time scoring list placing tenth all-time right now, but recently passing Larry Bird’s collegiate high.  At press time, he is seven points away from 9th place on that all-time list.

In a recent interview with ESPN’s Andy Katz, McDermott was asked what his favorite record to which he humbly responded “Our 23-4 record and being on top of the Big East.” When asked about going to the Final Four, McDermott said “Its been a dream of my dad’s, and to lead him to it would be awesome.” If he does lead his team to a Final Four it would be the first time in Creighton’s history.

The Vegas odds on McDermott getting the Naismith award must be pretty good.
