Will UConn Win it All–Again?

UConn ladies celebrate their victory over Stanford.

This could possibly be one of the greatest games in college basketball history with a battle of two unbeaten teams. UConn’s and Notre Dame’s women’s basketball teams are playing for the national championship tonight.

UConn’s womens come into the game with a record of 39-0 and a 18-0 conference record. While Notre Dame’s team comes into the game at 37-0 and 16-0 in conference play. UConn is looking to win their ninth title in nineteen years under head coach Geno Auriemma who has been the head coach since 1985. Notre Dame is looking for their first title since 2001 one under coach Muffet McGraw who has been head coach of the university women’s team since 1987. On top of that Notre Dame will be hungry for a national title after finishing as the runner-up the last two years.

On another note the UConn’s men’s basketball team just won the national championship (as this reporter boldly failed to predict) against the Kentucky Wildcats last night. The final score was 60-54 with senior guard Shabazz Napier winning MVP and finishing the game 22 points, 6 rebounds,3 assists, and 3 steals. UConn hit 100% of their free-throws, which is almost unheard of in championship play–even the NBA.  The question will be if the women’s team can carry the momentum to win the title?
