McPherson Takes 4th Place at State Wrestling Championship

The run to the state championships for the Indian River Warriors just keeps going, having a local wrestler take fourth at the state championships last weekend. Sonny McPherson went 41 and 4 this wrestling season, winning the Section III title at 170 pounds. This years Section III title victory for Sonny is his third in a row, after not placing his freshman year, and placing sixth his sophomore season..

McPherson has never placed at the State tournament before, but this year he placed fourth, and also earning the wrestler of the year award for Section III, division one. So far, Sonny has a total of 169 wins in his high school career, and on his way to getting the most wins in Indian River history. He also only has 48 losses in his whole career. He has 92 pins, 50 decisions, and 2 tech falls.

This season, Sonny took second at The North Country Tournament, first at the Windsor Christmas Tournament, won all his matches at the Spartan Duels,  won every match at the Section III duels, and took first at Frontier League. Sonny is in his junior year going onto his senior year, he often works out in the off season and wrestles in summer tournaments. The spotlight will be certainly be bright on Sonny his senior year at Indian River.
